A traditional Lakeland slate cottage tucked into the fellside above the water, with long views down the valley from every window.
Restored slowly and properly: thick walls, a wood-burning stove, deep window seats, and a warm farmhouse kitchen that pulls everyone in.
Ten minutes’ walk from the village, a footpath to the shore from the garden gate, and nothing but sheep and skylarks behind.
One double, one twin — both en-suite.
“My husband Tom and I bought Fellgarth in 2016 when it was three cold rooms and a leaking roof. We’ve spent the years since making it the sort of place we’d want to stay in ourselves — solid, warm, and easy to settle into. We live twenty minutes away, look after it personally, and are on the end of the phone if you need anything while you’re here.”

Getting here
- M6 to junction 36, then the A591 past Windermere and Ambleside — about 40 minutes.
- Nearest station is Windermere (9 miles); we can arrange a taxi to meet you.
- The lane is single-track for the last half mile. Passing places throughout.
From the door
- Shore path from the garden gate — flat, 25 minutes to the jetty
- Loughrigg Fell circular — 2.5 hours, big views for modest effort
- Village pub via the old coffin road — 35 minutes each way

What guests say
The photos undersell it. We came for three nights and left already trying to work out when we could come back. The stove was lit within an hour of arriving and the kitchen is better equipped than ours at home.
Two adults, two teenagers and a spaniel, and nobody was on top of anyone. The window seats were fought over every morning. Shore path is exactly as described — we swam most days.
A proper cottage, not a show home. Warm, quiet, and the bed was excellent. Only note: the lane is genuinely narrow, so take it slowly. We’d happily return in winter.
Booked last minute for a walking week and it was faultless. Boot room by the back door, drying space for waterproofs, and Claire left a hand-drawn map of her favourite routes. Small touches, big difference.
